Mshinwemali and Chulumanco M have joined forces for Awulutho Wena, a seven-track Maskandi EP released on October 5, 2026. Across its roughly 26-minute runtime, the project deals with familiar human experiences including love, difficult circumstances, relationships and tradition.
What gives the EP its identity is its focus on storytelling rather than a single musical theme. The songs approach different situations from personal and emotional angles, allowing the project to move between relationship-focused material and broader reflections on life.
A project built around shared experiences
The title track, “Awulutho Wena,” establishes the collaborative foundation of the EP with Chulumanco M. From there, Mshinwemali moves through a mixture of solo performances and carefully selected features.
“Indaba Zami” keeps the attention on Mshinwemali before “Myeke” introduces Sne Ntuli. The latter centres on the difficult experience of having to let go of someone you love, giving the EP one of its clearest relationship-focused moments.
The project then continues with “Ukwamukela” and “Ayngangawe,” the latter featuring Umfoka Msezane, before closing with “Nguye Yedwa” and “Kubuhlungu.”
The collaborations have a purpose
The guest appearances are not spread across every song. Instead, the EP uses three featured collaborations:
- Chulumanco M — “Awulutho Wena”
- Sne Ntuli — “Myeke”
- Umfoka Msezane — “Ayngangawe”
That leaves four tracks without featured artists, giving Mshinwemali considerable space to carry the project himself. The arrangement creates a balance between collaborative moments and songs that keep the spotlight on the lead artist.
Chulumanco M's role is particularly central because his appearance comes on the title track and the two artists are presented together across the release. The EP therefore feels like a joint creative statement while still retaining Mshinwemali as its primary voice.
Where the project fits in contemporary Maskandi
Awulutho Wena also reflects the way younger Maskandi artists are using the genre to address subjects that remain immediately relatable to modern audiences. Contemporary Maskandi can retain its storytelling foundation while dealing directly with relationships, heartbreak, personal challenges and everyday life.
That is evident in the project's song titles and reported themes. “Myeke”, for example, approaches the pain of letting go, while “Ukwamukela” and “Kubuhlungu” point toward acceptance and emotional difficulty. These subjects give the EP a human centre without requiring the project to follow one continuous story.
The tracklist
- Awulutho Wena feat. Chulumanco M — 4:48
- Indaba Zami — 3:12
- Myeke feat. Sne Ntuli — 4:22
- Ukwamukela — 4:06
- Ayngangawe feat. Umfoka Msezane — 4:10
- Nguye Yedwa — 3:51
- Kubuhlungu — 2:02
The bottom line
Awulutho Wena works best as a compact collection of Maskandi stories about people and the situations they face. Its strength is not in trying to make every track serve the same purpose; instead, Mshinwemali and Chulumanco M use different songs and collaborators to explore separate emotional and social experiences.
For anyone following the current Maskandi scene, the EP provides a useful snapshot of how Mshinwemali is developing his sound and using collaboration without losing the genre's storytelling character. The seven-track format keeps the project focused, while songs such as “Myeke” give it particularly clear emotional moments.
